DesktopMonitor App Reviews
Great little app!
Its nice to have this information on the desktop all the time. And, the application is very "lightweight" both in memory and processor usage.
easy and simple, I always wanted to know how hard my MacBook is actually working on graphicx intesive applications. i always worry it may be too hot in the long run.
Didnt work properly at first, after a system update, things seem to function as advertised. Havent tried it successfully with my new graphics card yet, but hopefully upon reinstallation of the card things will be fine. Could have more options, though, such as font, better system placement, more options of what shows and doesnt show, etc.
Killer App
Dito what Mike D2 said below. Its nice to have this info on the desktop and the app takes up almost no memory or processor
I thought that my MBA was running a little hotter than it should, but I wasnt sure just be feeling around the outside of the case. I looked around and found this app. It looked like it fit my needs, so I bought it. It does pretty much just what shows in the pictures, but it does it well, and I havent had any problems with crashes yet. I reccomend it if you need to keep an eye on your computers status.
They finally fixed it to where it is once again visable. That being said, the price for something this simplistic is a bit much. Other than the CPU temp, you can do all this with geek tool without paying anything. This would be a lot more impressive if the readout was something more than a simple text. Other than that, the app does exactly what it says it does. Another annoying feature is that the app has to stay up in the dock in order to work. This would be much more impressive if I didnt have to know that it was running in the dock, and instead had a small icon at the top bar.
Its ok
Not that looks pretty what i expected. But its worth. Have all of info which necessary.
Make sure it is what you want. Isuppose it des what it is supposed to but it SHOULD BE FREE. it is a rip off but i fell for it and i accept responsibility for being the fool.
Simple but useful. Better than leaving top up in an xterm. Would be nice if you could choose which elements to display in the table -- I personally dont care about all the temps available, and the same goes for page ins/outs etc.
Well worth the price, lets you see important system information in real time and lets you control how it looks. I didnt see an option for it, but it would be nice to be able to add/remove unwanted sensors and also a button to hide/show DesktopMonitor. Excellent app!
"Desktop monitor has no icon" - so launch it from the app folder…. icon wont go away. use growl to be notified if your cpu temp goes above xx…. threshhold set to 95, monitor and alternate tools show 75, notification fires off. doesnt respect placement… overall its handy info. but very unrefined. dev needs to step it up big time… for now, skip it. geektool takes more work, but is more powerful, and free.
Disappointed that this update doesnt include temperature read outs for the GPU. On my Mac Pro 2010, Im also still not seeing a temperature read out for HDD 1, even though I have all 4 drive bays populated. Finally, I am seeing a temperature reading for all 4 memory DIMM slots, even though I only have the first 3 slots populated. I had previously contacted the developer to request these additions. Beyond that, it gives the majority of temperature and fan speed readings.
I like this app a lot, and the price was right, so I dont want to complain about it at all. If I had to make a suggestion, however, I would like just a few more customization options a a couple previous reviewers have mentioned. Adding/removing sensors would be sweet. Also, the ability to move the fields into a different order would be nice. Overall, however, the display is fairly customizable… it just takes some playing around. Ill come back and add a star if/when this app is updated with one or more of these suggestions.
Great app, very useful and fun to have on your desktop. I would recommend this app to whomever wishes to be able to monitor their Macs vital statistics. The only thing that I would recommend to the developer would be to remove the icon from the dock.
hard to see depending on the wallpaper give it a better background, please get rid of the icon in the dock its annoying, let me take the thing off the desktop and pin a few things to my task bar.
Well all in all, pretty good idea and performs well under 24/7 for the last 6 months on my older iMac. However today after installing on my brand new iMac it has some issues. The first one is that the Ambient temperature reads 7 degrees C all the time. It simply is incorrect and just dont seem to update. The second thing and there might be more. The CPU temperature is not displayed. Now I know Apple is good but Im sure they included a CPU sensor. Might be other temp sensors missing and maybe even a fan or two. But all in all I am very pleased with the application. Keep up the good work and squash a few more bugs (undocumented features ;>) and this will get another review.
While I tend to love the authors approach of putting information right on the desktop in a windowless fashion, I didnt like NOT being able to decide what to monitor. Within hours of buying this, I ended up purchasing one that costs more than twice as much, making this a true case of false economy, although I will bet the author continues to "enhance" this product, proving, at least, sometimes, more is less and vice versa!
Just bought this for my MBA 2013. The app is nice, but the info shown is not customizable. Besides, it does not show CPU temperature at all. It does show temperature for MBA 2013 for the following items: Airport Card, Enclosure Base, Base 2 and Base3, Heatsink B, Mem Bank A1. Mem controller. In contrast, for my older MBA mid-2011 it shows CPU., all three Enclosure Bases, Heatsink B, Mem Bank A1, Mem Controller. Unfortunately I could not see the support level for different HW models before purchasing. To be fair, the app is useful and displays other good info about the Fan speed and Memory usage.
Too high energy impact
The energy impact is too high
No Network Stats
Nice Application, but I wish adding network download and upload speed
